Pearson VUE Accessibility Policy

Employee Training

We are committed to training employees in accessible customer service practices and other accessibility standards. Such training is tailored to specific roles. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • The purpose of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the requirements of the Customer Service Standards
  • Our policies related to the Customer Service Standards
  • How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities
  • How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person
  • How to use the equipment or devices available on-site or otherwise that may help with providing goods, services, or facilities to people with disabilities
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing our organization’s goods, services, or facilities

We train each employee as soon as practicable after being hired and provide training in respect of any changes to the policies.

Assistive Devices

Many test-takers depend on assistive devices and technologies to independently navigate public spaces and in their daily use of technologies. Pearson-owned Test Centers are designed with the diverse needs of all our test-takers in mind.

Understanding that candidates prefer to use assistive technologies with which they are familiar, Pearson VUE software supports a variety of open-source and commercially available assistive technologies.

A team of Pearson VUE accessibility specialists regularly researches assistive technologies to enhance the capabilities of our applications and systems. Contact Pearson VUE Accessibility with questions regarding our support for accessible devices.

Service Animals

We are committed to welcoming differently abled test takers who are accompanied by a service animal on our premises. Test takers who have services animals are permitted to bring the animal into any location they may enter, including the test center and testing room.  Preauthorization is not required and Test takers are also not required to show proof of their need of a services animal.

Support Persons

A differently abled test-taker who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them on our premises.  If you need the assistance of a support person during your exam, please Request an Accommodation.

Communications

We communicate with differently abled people in ways that consider their unique needs and will work with them to determine which method(s) of communication are preferred.

Feedback Process

Pearson VUE welcomes feedback on how well we provide accessible customer service. Such feedback will help us identify barriers and respond to concerns.  Please Contact Pearson VUE Accessibility with any feedback about our accessibility performance and policies.

Information and Communications

We will consult with the person making the request in determining the suitability of an accessible format or communication support. In the unlikely event Pearson VUE determines that information or communications are unavailable in the requested format the organization shall provide the requestor with:

  • An explanation as to why the information or communications are unavailable in that format
  • A summary of the information or communications

Employment

We notify employees, job applicants, and the public that accommodations can be made during recruitment and hiring.

When making offers of employment we notify successful applicants of policies for accommodating employees with disabilities. We also notify staff that various support options are available for those with disabilities as soon as practicable. Finally, we maintain a process to develop individual accommodation plans for employees.

We will consult with employees when arranging for the provision of suitable accommodations in a manner that takes into account the accessibility needs due to disability. We will consult with the person making the request to determine the suitability of an accessible format or communication support specifically for:

  • Information that is needed in order to perform the employee’s job
  • Information that is generally available to employees in the workplace

Changes to Existing Policies

Any policies of this organization that do not respect and promote the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity for people with disabilities will be modified or removed. This document is publicly available. Accessible formats are available upon request.
